Oxylus is an e-methanol company working on CO2 electrolysis, more specifically the CO2 conversion in 1 step and 1 reactor. They do this at room temperature and pressure, and with efficiencies up to 50%, they aim for a levelized cost of $0.51/L. The secret sauce is their patent-pending catalyst of modified cobalt phthalocyanine dispersed on carbon nanotubes, with uniquely high selectivity (84% vs 68% on average for most competitors). High selectivity means that a high percentage of the CO2 available also gets converted into methanol, this is very important because of the high cost of carbon capture associated with e-fuel production.
